Sabine Graf
has a PhD from Vienna University of Technology, Austria, and is presently an Assistant Professor at Athabasca University, School of Computing and Information Systems, in Canada. Her research expertise and interests include adaptivity and personalization, student modeling, ubiquitous and mobile learning, artificial intelligence, and learning analytics. She has published more than 80 peer-reviewed journal papers, book chapters, and conference papers in these areas, of which three conference papers were awarded with a best paper award. Dr Graf is Executive Board Member of the IEEE Technical Committee on Learning Technologies, Editor of the Bulletin of the IEEE Techical Committee on Learning Technology, and Associate Editor of the International Journal of Interaction Design and Architectures. She is an active member of the research community, serving as editorial board member of five international journals, workshop chair and organizer of eleven international workshops, doctoral consortium chair at four international conferences, and guest editor of three special issues. Dr. Graf has been invited to given keynote/invited talks at universities, companies and conferences in Austria, Canada, Colombia, New Zealand, Taiwan, and UK.

Alke Martens
is Professor and leader of the research group 'Computer Science and Instructional Design', and she is currently elected vice-rector for research and international affairs. She has a PhD from the University of Rostock, Germany, in artificial intelligence. Alke Martens works in the field of TEL and cognitive systems. She has developed a generic framework for intelligent and classical teaching and training systems, which is developed as a multilevel approach (starting from formal process descriptions, to pattern based design, and resulting in a modular component based architecture). This framework is constantly growing (e.g. for game-based learning, modeling/simulation, and different application fields). Related work takes place in the field of cognitive design, adaptation technologies and formal descriptions thereof. Martens stresses the importance of empirical research in the context of TEL. She is also active in the context of pervasion in education, especially in the context of how instructional design for future learning places will look like. Martens has several financed projects running (e.g. South Baltic in FP 7, ESF, and national fundings like DFG), she is involved as committee member in several international conferences, has been chair and organizer of several international workshops, works as member of the editorial board and as reviewer for several international journals.
