Roderick King



is Carnegie Professor of Sport and Exercise Biochemistry at Leeds Metropolitan University.
He trained as a biochemist at the University of Bath (UK) and obtaining a doctorate in medical biochemistry at Leeds University (UK). Rod has spent over 35 years in academic life both as a lecturer and researcher and has worked with the Open University (UK) both as a tutor and consultant.  He has extensive experience of research with human subjects as patients and participants in a variety of contexts. Rod specialised on wet chemistry techniques and led the laboratory team within the academic unit at the Leeds General Infirmary. He was fortunate to work on quantitative research in Chemical Pathology, the MRC neutron activation facility and in Surgical Research at Leeds and published widely in these areas. He has successful innovation applied to nutrient products to be used in sports formulations. This led to industrial and commercial involvement between ingredient producers, marketing agents, product consultants, retail organisations and others on a national and international scale. His current research focuses on carbohydrates and hydration for sport performance and recovery. Rod joined Leeds Metropolitan University in 2000 where he continues to teach and research in sports and exercise science.
